Baytree Road.
Gauge: OO Gauge Size: 9' x 2' Era: 1965 / 70 The Taunton to Barnstaple line was a 42 mile stretch of railway mainly consisting of single track with passing loops at stations. About 17 miles west of Taunton was Morebath with its small station building, goods shed and signal box. Further west again by 2 miles was Morebath Junction which provided the connection to the Exe Valley line going south to Tiverton. Baytree Road is based on Morebath in location only. It has a modest station building, goods shed and signal box. In addition there is a small motive power depot. It has been assumed that the branch had survived the Beeching cuts and is still operational into the 1970's. The small depot facilities were added when the sheds at Barnstaple were closed. Locomotives stabled at Baytree Road provide service to Barnstaple in addition to the route south to Tiverton via Morebath Junction. The era chosen is 1965 / 70 so as to include steam & diesel hydraulics as well as the occasional diesel electric locomotive thus providing more interest. Chris Rix. |
